Remote sensing images can identify and map different sugarcane classes within its semi-perennial
growth cycle that begins with the planting of a stem cutting that grows for about 12 months
(year sugarcane) or 18 months (year-and-half sugarcane).
The sugarcane classes that were mapped are:
(a) Ratoon: is the sugarcane available for harvest after one or more cuts;
(b) Renovated: is the year-and-half sugarcane plant that has undergone renovation
during the previous crop year, and will be available for harvest in the current crop year;
(c) Expansion: is the sugarcane planted in new areas and will be harvested
for the first time;
(d) Under renovation: is the sugarcane area set a site for one season
(not available for that specific crop year);
(a + b + c) Total available sugarcane for harvest.
(a + b + c + d) Total cultivated sugarcane.
