Comments: the information regarding the mapping of sugarcane's cultivation, crop of 2003/04 and 2004/05, for the states of Goiás, Mato Grosso, Mato Grosso do Sul, Minas Gerais and Paraná were reviewed on 16/07/2012 and the area of cultivated sugarcane in some municipalities has been corrected. Please, download the tables referring to these crops and states if you have obtained them before 16/07/2012.
The links are for the spreadsheets with information on sugarcane area cultivated in the municipalities of each state.
Remote sensing images can identify and map different sugarcane classes within its semi-perennial growth cycle that begins with the planting of a stem cutting that grows for about 12 months (year sugarcane) or 18 months (year-and-half sugarcane).
The sugarcane classes that were mapped are:
(a) Ratoon: is the sugarcane available for harvest after one or more cuts;
(b) Renovated: is the year-and-half sugarcane plant that has undergone renovation during the previous crop year, and will be available for harvest in the current crop year;
(c) Expansion: is the sugarcane planted in new areas and will be harvested for the first time;
(d) Under renovation: is the sugarcane area set a site for one season (not available for that specific crop year);
(a + b + c) Total available sugarcane for harvest.
(a + b + c + d) Total cultivated sugarcane.
