Goal
The objective of the Project ETECS-Paraíba is to analyze deformation structures and the intensity of post-rift tectonic deformations in the Paraíba Basin, in order to help understand better the evolutionary model of the South American Atlantic coast.
These data will be analyzed making an effort to improve the chronological framework, particularly for Quaternary sedimentary deposits, based on radiocarbon dating and optically stimulated luminescence (OSL) dating.
The results from this project will allow qualitative and quantitative analyses, which will help in the evolution of the following topics: 1. reconstitution of the tectonossedimentary history of the Paraíba Basin; 2. analysis of its correspondence with tectonic events that have been recorded in other areas of Northeastern Brazil; and 3. reconstitution of post-rift deformation patterns that might act in passive margins.
